The workshop starts with experimentation on copper first so you get the techniques down, then onto sterling silver. Have some fun forcing silver into a wacky ring, take it quietly and make a beautifully crafted silver ring, or do something in between. I will help out with the very hard parts, of course. But you eventually learn quite a bit about making jewellery by hand, including brazing the joint at over 700degC, then making it nice and polished. No jewellery-making experience necessary. Bush Jewellery Studio is a husband and wife jewellery studio which also offers tuition. I'm Brian Adam and I'll be your tutor. My workshops emphasise practical jewellery-making processes, simple hand technology, and hand-made tool-making. The Wedding Ring Workshop gives you the opportunity to make your own wedding bands by hand and to make them together, with NZ-sourced gold or silver. You'll start with NZ-sourced gold in the form of granules or strip: 22k, 18k, 14k, 10k, 9 karat, or silver. This is rather unique as a wedding ring workshop because here at Bush Jewellery Studio you will make your own rings from scratch. This means your range of metal options will be confined to the malleable yellow gold karats. There will be plenty of scope for you to apply your own touch and for each of you to make a truly unique ring. I'll ask you about ring dimensions and we'll measure your finger sizes. When all is considered we'll make a date. $US700 covers your tuition which will take about 4 hours. Gold costs are extra, so allow $US500 to $US1800 for the gold, depending on the karat and weight of your choice of ring. I'll ask a deposit to secure the booking and to cover the cost of the material. The balance will be required two days prior to the day. I'll take photos along the way which you will get to keep.
